Individual BESTÅ base units are straightforward. Combinations with multiple units, push-to-open fittings and wall-hung variants are not. Push-to-open only works if the gap is set correctly during installation. Adjusting it afterwards means removing the fitting completely and starting again.
Wall-hung BESTÅ combinations above a TV must hang level and be properly anchored. In Vienna's Altbau apartments that means identifying the wall type, choosing the right rawlplug, and distributing the load across multiple points. A BESTÅ combination with glass doors and contents can weigh 40 to 60 kg.
What we assemble
All BESTÅ variants: freestanding base units with and without legs, wall-hung units, combinations with doors, glass panels, drawers and shelves. All fitting types - standard hinges, push-to-open and soft-close. For combinations with multiple units, we align all doors to a consistent gap so the overall look is clean.
We can also mount your TV in the same visit. BESTÅ assembly and TV wall mounting together saves time and makes sense logistically since we already have the tools and scanner on site.
Wall-hung BESTÅ - what matters
Wall-hung BESTÅ units are secured via a wall rail. The rail must be level and anchored at load-bearing points. In Altbau apartments with solid brick walls, this is technically fine but needs the right heavy-duty rawlplug. On Rigips (drywall) without a stud behind it, the wall cannot take the weight. In that case we mount directly into the studs or recommend a freestanding configuration instead.
Push-to-open: why the gap has to be right during assembly
BESTÅ push-to-open fittings work via a spring mechanism calibrated to a very specific depth. If the door is fitted too close to the front frame, it won't open properly. Too far away and it bounces back. The correct gap is 1 to 1.5 mm - and that's set when fitting the doors, not adjusted afterwards.
We fit push-to-open doors at the correct clearance from the start. On a combination with four units and eight doors, this makes a noticeable difference: all open evenly, all have the same gap profile.
With push-to-open BESTÅ combinations, never fit all doors at once - fit one door, test it, then the next. That way a faulty unit is identified immediately.
FAQs
Can BESTÅ be wall-hung on Rigips (drywall)?
Only if wall studs are present and accessible. We check with a scanner before drilling. On drywall without studs, we recommend a freestanding configuration or anchoring into the solid wall nearby.
How much does IKEA BESTÅ assembly cost in Vienna?
