Curtain rods are often underestimated. Brackets sit too close to the window frame, the rod isn't level, or the plug doesn't hold in an Altbau wall. We do it correctly: scanner, laser, right anchor, right offset.

Curtain Rod Mounting: Wall Brackets and Offset
Brackets should sit at least 10 to 15 cm above the window frame so the curtain falls completely beside the window when open and doesn't block any light. The rod should extend 15 to 20 cm beyond the window width on each side. We advise on the optimal position on site.
Ceiling Track Installation Vienna: Invisible Mounting, Maximum Opening
Ceiling tracks are mounted directly on the ceiling or on the wall surface above the window. They allow curtains that reach to the ceiling, which makes rooms feel taller. For ceiling installation in concrete ceilings we use concrete anchors; in drywall ceilings we mount directly onto the structural framework.
Curtain Rods in Altbau: Take Care Above Windows
In the area directly above windows, Altbau buildings often have roller shutter boxes, lintels or electrical cables. Before drilling above any window frame, we always scan that area first. Drilling into roller shutter channels or a cable is expensive to fix and entirely avoidable.
In many Viennese Altbau buildings, the wall directly above the window is a different material to the surrounding wall: often a concrete lintel or mixed old brickwork. We identify this with the scanner and select the right anchor.
FAQs
How far above the window should the curtain rod hang?
Typically 10 to 20 cm above the window frame so the curtain doesn't block the glass when open. If you want to make the room feel taller, mount the rod close to the ceiling. We advise on the best position on site.
Can a curtain rod be installed without drilling?
Tension rods work without drilling, but only for light curtains and smooth window frames. For heavier curtains, larger windows or textile rails, proper wall mounting with anchors is the only reliably long-term option. We advise what suits your windows.
Can I have multiple windows done in one visit?
Yes, and that is the most efficient option. We come once and do all windows in a single visit. For three or more windows we always provide a package price.
Does a curtain rod hold on a drywall wall?
Yes, with the right anchors. In drywall we use hollow-wall anchors or fix directly into the metal studs behind the board. For heavier curtains we distribute the load across more fixing points.
