Kitchen cabinets are fixed via rail systems or direct screwing. The fixings must be designed for a fully loaded weight of 40 to 80 kg per cabinet. In Altbau brick walls we use heavy-duty anchors; in drywall we fix to the metal studs behind the board. Where a wall is destined for a kitchen, we also scan for service pipes behind the wall.
Bathroom Cabinet & Office Wall Cabinet
Bathroom cabinets are usually lighter than kitchen cabinets, but mounting in a wet room requires corrosion-resistant screws and the correct technique for drilling through tiles without cracks. Office wall cabinets and display units are mounted with the same standard: laser-level, securely fixed, no wall damage.
Kitchen Cabinets in Altbau: Why Load Calculation Matters
An empty kitchen cabinet 60 cm wide weighs about 15 kg. Fully stocked with crockery, pots or provisions it can reach 50 to 70 kg. In Altbau brick walls with soft masonry, that is a substantial load that standard plugs cannot hold long-term.
We calculate the expected weight before mounting and use heavy-duty anchors rated for this load. This is the only material that keeps a fully loaded kitchen cabinet secure in an Altbau wall over the long term.
Kitchen cabinets often depend on rail systems that must be perfectly aligned so cabinet doors close flush. We align the rails with the laser before the cabinets are hung.

Wrong Load Rating for Kitchen Cabinets
A kitchen cabinet mounted with wrong anchors can pull out of the wall under full load. This doesn't happen immediately; it occurs gradually and without warning as the anchor works loose over months. Heavy-duty anchors sized for the actual total load are not optional, they are essential.
FAQs
How many anchors does a kitchen wall cabinet need?
It depends on the cabinet size, weight and wall type. As a guide: at least four fixing points per cabinet, more for heavy cabinets or long cabinet runs. In drywall we always anchor directly into the metal studs. We calculate this on site.
Can a kitchen cabinet be mounted on a drywall wall?
Yes, but only with the right technique. We locate the metal studs behind the board with our scanner and fix the cabinet directly into them. This gives significantly higher load capacity than hollow-wall anchors alone. For very heavy cabinets we additionally install a reinforcement plate.
Do I need an electrician for kitchen cabinet mounting?
Usually not. The mechanical mounting of the cabinet to the wall is not an electrical installation. If the cabinet has built-in lighting that needs connecting to the mains, or if new sockets are needed behind the cabinet, you need an electrician for that part specifically.
