Hanging Heavy Mirrors in Vienna's Altbau
Altbau walls made from soft brick require specialist anchors. Standard plugs loosen in aged masonry over time, particularly if a heavy mirror shifts slightly. We use heavy-duty injection mortar or mechanical heavy-duty anchors that grip securely in the masonry. A 30 kg mirror holds long-term with this approach.
Bathroom Mirror Mounting Vienna
Bathroom mirrors are often larger and heavier than they appear. In wet areas, the right corrosion-resistant fixings also matter so the mounting doesn't rust over time. We install bathroom mirrors with stainless fixings and a clean, dust-free result in the bathroom.

Heavy Mirrors in Altbau: The Right Fixing
A 20 kg mirror on a standard plug in old brick masonry: it can hold initially and fail after a few months. In Altbau buildings, the masonry is often soft, aged brick where plugs gradually loosen, particularly when the mirror shifts minimally through vibration.
For heavy mirrors in Altbau walls we use either heavy-duty injection mortar (chemical anchoring) or mechanical heavy-duty anchors. Both systems grip deep into the masonry and distribute the load over a larger area. The result holds securely even at 30 kg, long-term.
Many mirrors have only simple hanging eyelets on the back rated for a maximum of 5 kg. We check the mirror's hanging system before mounting and reinforce it with load-rated hooks where needed.

Wrong Anchor for Heavy Mirrors
A heavy mirror that pulls out of the wall can cause serious injury and property damage. This almost always comes down to a wrong anchor choice for the wall type or an underestimate of the mirror's weight. We check both before mounting.
FAQs
How heavy a mirror can you hang?
There is no weight limit. In solid walls (Altbau brick, concrete), we can safely fix mirrors of 80 kg and more. In drywall, the right hollow-wall anchors or direct fixing to studs allow up to 40 kg. We always size the fixing for the actual weight.
Can a heavy mirror hang safely on drywall?
Yes, with the right technique. We locate the metal studs behind the board using our scanner and anchor the mirror directly into them. Alternatively, we use specialist hollow-wall anchors that spread behind the board. For very heavy mirrors we can also install a reinforcement plate behind the gypsum board.
At what height should a mirror hang?
It depends on the purpose. A full-length mirror ideally starts at hip height (around 30 cm from the floor). A bathroom mirror above the washbasin sits with its lower edge about 10 to 15 cm above the basin. For decorative mirrors, the visual effect in the room is the main guide. We advise on site.
Do I need to provide wall hooks or mirror fixings?
No. We bring professional wall hooks, mirror hangers and all fixing materials. If the mirror has no hanging system of its own, we bring a suitable one.
How much does mirror hanging cost in Vienna?
Light mirrors up to 5 kg from €39. Medium mirrors (5 to 20 kg) from €49. Heavy mirrors over 20 kg from €69. The exact price depends on weight, wall type and fixing system. You receive a fixed price upfront.
Can a mirror be hung without drilling?
For small, light mirrors up to around 3 kg, adhesive hooks can work on smooth plaster or tiles. For anything heavier, it is not reliable, particularly in Altbau apartments with uneven walls. A 10 kg mirror falling from adhesive pads is not just an expensive repair. From 5 kg up, we recommend drilling.
