How It Works
Enquiry
Tell us which accessories need mounting and send a photo. We give you a flat-rate price upfront.
Check, Drill, Fix
We establish the substrate behind the tiles, select the correct anchor and drill with diamond bits. All accessories are aligned and firmly mounted.
Done
You check the fit and alignment. Drill dust and tile debris are vacuumed up. The bathroom is left clean.
We mount bathroom accessories of all kinds across Vienna: towel rails, toilet roll holders, soap dispensers, shower shelves, bathroom hooks and toilet brush holders. On tiles, natural stone and drywall. The technical challenge in a bathroom is the combination of fragile tiles, wet-zone exposure and an often unknown substrate behind the surface.
A towel rail that pulls out of the wall because the wrong anchor was set into a cavity behind the tile typically damages the tile itself in the process. The resulting repair bill is disproportionately higher than the cost of a properly executed installation.
Tile Drilling Without Cracks
Drilling into tiles is the most critical step when mounting bathroom accessories. A tile that cracks during drilling cannot be repaired. The risk comes from the wrong tool, too high a speed or too much pressure. We use diamond drill bits exclusively, which cut through the tile rather than hammering it. Rotation speed is matched to the tile type, and the hole is continuously cooled with water throughout.
Older Altbau bathrooms in Vienna often have original ceramic tiles that are more brittle than modern porcelain stoneware. This requires an even slower approach and particularly light pressure. We know the difference and adjust accordingly.
The Right Anchor Behind the Tile
What lies behind the tiles determines which anchor will hold. In older Vienna Gründerzeit buildings this is typically solid brick masonry with a render coat, on top of which the tiles are laid. There a standard plug in sufficient length performs well. In newer bathrooms or wet-room drywall construction, the tile sits on a cement board or directly on moisture-resistant gypsum board with a sealing membrane. There you need hollow-wall anchors or metal toggles that spread behind the board.
A standard plastic plug designed for solid material fails in cavities. It may hold initially and then give way once the towel rail is actually loaded. We tap the wall, drill a test hole and establish the substrate before choosing the anchor.
Combination Visit: Multiple Accessories in One Appointment
A single towel rail takes about 30 minutes to mount. But if you also need a toilet roll holder, a hook next to the shower and a shower shelf, a combination visit makes considerably more sense than four separate appointments. We calculate a flat rate for 3 to 5 items that is well below the sum of individual prices.
A photo of all the items to be mounted is enough for a binding quote. The accessories should already be purchased. We bring all fixing materials, anchors, screws and tools.
Tile Drilling: Why the Tool Makes the Difference
A ceramic tile is hard but brittle. It responds to impact differently from masonry. A standard masonry bit with hammer action transfers impact energy to the tile on contact and can generate microcracks that propagate suddenly. The result is a cracked tile that cannot be saved.
A diamond drill bit works without impact. The diamond segments on the rim of the bit grind through the material. Combined with continuous water cooling, the tile stays cold at the hole and no thermal stress builds up. This method works even for porcelain stoneware tiles, which are harder and more brittle still than ceramic.
Old ceramic tiles in Vienna Altbau bathrooms from the 1950s through 1970s are often thinner than modern tiles (6 to 8 mm instead of 10 mm) and can have hairline cracks not visible from the surface. We work at even lower pressure and slower speed to avoid opening hidden weak points.
Wet-Zone Fixings: What Holds Long-Term
A bathroom is a demanding environment in terms of both temperature cycles and moisture. Screws and anchors made from the wrong material corrode, swell or loosen under alternating humidity. This happens more often than expected, particularly when the cheap fitting kits included with the accessory are used.
We use only stainless steel screws (A2 or A4 grade) and polyamide or nylon anchors that do not absorb moisture and do not expand through corrosion. In the direct wet zone inside the shower, we add a silicone seal at the wall penetration to prevent water from entering behind the tile.
Many fitting kits included with accessory packages contain zinc-plated steel screws that begin to rust in wet rooms within a few years. The visible rust stain on white tiles usually comes not from the accessory itself but from the screw behind it. We replace these screws as a matter of course.
Technical Background
Diamond Drilling in Tiles
We use wet diamond bits with integrated water feed or manual water cooling. This keeps the bit cold, extends its service life and reliably protects the tile from heat-induced cracking.
Anchors for Wet Zones and Different Substrates
We establish the substrate before choosing the anchor, using tapping and a test hole where needed. Then we select the specific matching anchor: injection mortar for soft-core solid brick, spread anchors or toggle bolts for cavities, nylon plugs for solid concrete. For wet-zone penetrations we add a silicone seal at the wall entry point.
Combination Visit: Efficiency and Cost Saving
Our flat rate for combination visits includes all holes, anchors, screws and alignment. A photo of all the items to be mounted is enough for a binding quote.
Important Safety Notes
Cracked Tiles from Wrong Drilling Tools
A tile cracked during drilling cannot be repaired. Depending on the age and model of the tile, replacement can be expensive or impossible if the tile is no longer available. The risk comes exclusively from wrong technique: hammer action, too high a speed or too much pressure. We use diamond bits without hammer action and cool the hole continuously throughout.
Wrong Anchor in the Wet Zone
An anchor or screw made from the wrong material corrodes in wet zones and can cause rust on tiles, loosening of the accessory or water ingress behind the tile. Standard plugs and zinc-plated screws are not suitable for bathrooms. We use only nylon anchors and stainless steel screws (A2/A4 grade) with a silicone seal at the wall penetration in the direct wet zone.
FAQs
Can you drill into tiles without cracking them?▾
Yes. We use diamond drill bits that cut through the tile without hammering, and we continuously cool the hole during drilling. Rotation speed is matched to the tile type. This way we drill even brittle Altbau tiles without causing cracks.
Which bathroom accessories do you mount?▾
Towel rails (single and double), toilet roll holders, soap dispensers, toothbrush cup holders, shower shelves, shower caddies, bathroom hooks, towel rings and toilet brush holders. Also heated towel rails (fitting service only, no electrical connection).
What does bathroom accessories mounting cost in Vienna?▾
A single accessory starts from €39. For 3 to 5 items in a combination visit we charge from €89 as a flat rate. A photo of the items is enough for a binding quote upfront.
Do I need to provide the accessories?▾
Yes, the accessories should already be purchased. We bring all fixing materials: the right anchors for your wall type, screws in the correct quality for wet zones, and all tools.
How do you find out what is behind my tiles?▾
We tap the wall and drill a test hole. In most cases that is enough to establish the substrate. Where the result is unclear, we use a wall scanner. The result determines which anchor is selected.
The previous tenant mounted a towel rail that is now wobbly. Can you fix it?▾
Yes. We remove the old rail, check the substrate, fill the old hole with repair mortar or injection adhesive and set a new load-rated anchor. If the original position is to be kept, this is possible in most cases.
Do bathroom accessories hold on drywall?▾
Yes, with the right hollow-wall anchors or metal toggles. Drywall in wet rooms typically has a moisture barrier and a cement backer board. We use spread anchors or toggle bolts that lock behind the board. For towel rails that take heavy loads, we locate the metal studs and fix directly into them.
How long does bathroom accessories mounting take?▾
A single accessory such as a toilet roll holder or bathroom hook takes 20 to 30 minutes. A combination visit for 4 to 5 items typically runs 60 to 90 minutes, depending on wall preparation and the number of holes.
Can you mount a heated towel rail?▾
We mount the heated towel rail to the wall (tile drilling, fixing, alignment). We do not carry out the electrical connection to the mains. A licensed electrician is required for that. Many of our clients coordinate both separately.
What happens if a tile cracks during drilling?▾
With the correct tools and technique this is effectively ruled out. Should it ever occur, we document the damage and work through the situation with you. We only use diamond drill bits and adhere to the technical parameters for each tile type.
Service Area
We mount bathroom accessories throughout Vienna, with particularly frequent visits to Gründerzeit buildings in the 9th, 8th, 4th, 12th and 15th districts. These Altbau bathrooms often have original ceramic tiles still in place, requiring extra care during drilling.
