Our Approach

  • Wall scanner before every drill - no damaged cables, no expensive accidents.
  • Cable routed neatly in a conduit or behind the wall - no visible wiring.
  • Load-rated ceiling hooks for heavy light fixtures - no dropping, no wobbling.
  • Installed at the existing connection - no licensed electrician needed in most cases.

We install ceiling lights, pendant lamps, wall lights, chandeliers and outdoor fixtures in Vienna and the surrounding area - cleanly, safely and at a fixed price.

Buying a new lamp is easy. Getting it installed so the cable disappears and the fitting stays secure for years is a different matter. We handle lamp installation in Vienna from start to finish - wall scan, load-rated fixing, clean cable routing, and a result that looks exactly how it should.

Ceiling Lamp & Pendant Light Installation Vienna

The most common request: mounting a new ceiling or pendant light at an existing connection. We fix the bracket securely to the ceiling, connect the fitting, and make sure everything hangs straight. For heavier pendant lights or multi-lamp arrangements, we check the ceiling's load capacity first and use a reinforced hook where needed.

Wall Lamp Installation Vienna with Clean Cable Routing

A wall lamp needs neat cable management, otherwise it looks unprofessional. We run the cable in a white conduit along the wall or, where possible, behind the plaster. In Altbau apartments we always scan the wall first to avoid existing wiring. The result: wall lamp mounted straight, cable invisible or tidily routed.

Chandelier & Heavy Light Fixture Mounting

A chandelier weighs 10 to 40 kilograms. A standard ceiling hook from the hardware store is not designed for that. We set load-rated hooks directly into concrete or structural elements, calculate the permitted load, and mount the fitting so it stays secure for years - even when cleaned or bumped.

Outdoor Lamp Mounting at Entrance, Balcony & Facade

Outdoor lamps need weatherproof mounting and cable routing that keeps moisture out. We install wall lamps at front doors, on balconies and on facades - with the correct IP-rated seal and the right anchor for exterior walls.

Lamp Installation in Vienna's Altbau Apartments: What Is Different

Vienna's Altbau apartments (buildings from roughly 1870 to 1945) have specific characteristics that matter for lamp installation. Ceilings often feature stucco details that must not be damaged. Walls are built from soft Altbau brick where standard anchors do not grip reliably. Electrical runs often follow non-standard routes because wiring has been modified over the decades.

Before drilling in any Altbau apartment, we scan both the ceiling and wall with a professional multi-sensor detector. This locates existing cables and identifies safe drilling positions. For the lamp bracket we use load-rated anchors that grip securely in aged masonry - not the standard nylon plug that gradually works loose in soft mortar.

Many Altbau ceiling hooks are set in old plaster that has become brittle over time. We test the existing hook for stability before hanging any new fitting and replace it if needed - before the chandelier goes up, not after.

Cable Management for Wall Lamps: Conduit or Behind the Plaster?

A wall lamp needs a power supply. In most cases there is no flush-mounted connection exactly where you want the lamp, and the cable has to be routed from the nearest outlet or connection point. The routing method is critical to the finished look.

Cable conduit: The cable runs in a white or colour-matched conduit along the wall. Neat, cost-effective and usually permitted in rental apartments without structural changes. This is the most common solution for wall lamps in Vienna.

Cable behind the plaster: Where walls are being replastered or renovated, we can cut a channel and run the cable invisibly. The result is completely hidden, but requires more work and may not be permitted in all rental agreements.

We discuss both options with you and recommend what fits your apartment and budget.

Mounting Heavy Chandeliers and Pendant Lights Safely

Chandeliers and heavy designer pendants are popular in Vienna's Altbau apartments, where high ceilings and ornate stucco call for a statement light fitting. The mechanical fixing is the critical point. A chandelier weighing 25 kilograms needs more than a standard hook from the hardware store.

We calculate the required load rating and choose the fixing type to match the ceiling structure: heavy-duty anchors in concrete (for post-war buildings), specialist cavity anchors in hollow ceilings, or direct fixing to ceiling joists. The fitting is secured with a locking nut that prevents it from working loose through vibration or cleaning over time.

Many pendant lights come with a decorative canopy bracket rated for fittings up to 5 kg. For heavier fixtures we replace this with a load-rated bracket that looks identical from below but actually holds the weight.

Technical Details Behind Secure Lamp Installation

Load Ratings for Ceiling Fixings

Standard canopy brackets supplied with light fittings are typically rated for 3 to 8 kg. In concrete ceilings, the right anchor can hold 50 kg or more. In hollow ceilings (drywall), specialist anchors fixed to joists handle 15 to 20 kg. The actual load capacity depends on ceiling type, anchor material and the number of fixing points.

We never guess whether a ceiling can hold a fitting. We check the ceiling type, calculate the required load rating and select anchors with a safety margin for the lifetime of the fitting.

Cable Cross-Sections and Connection Types

Standard residential lighting in Austria uses 1.5 mm² cable. Older Altbau installations sometimes have thinner conductors or aluminium wiring from the 1960s and 1970s. We inspect the existing connection before attaching any new fitting and flag anything that looks incorrect.

A connection that looks fine can have degraded insulation or incorrect conductor sizes. We check before connecting, not after.

IP Protection Ratings for Outdoor and Bathroom Lamps

IP44 is the minimum for bathroom fittings and covered outdoor areas. IP65 is required for exposed outdoor locations such as facades and building entrances. A lamp with the wrong IP rating in an outdoor position will take in moisture, leading to short circuits and potential fire risk.

We check the IP rating of the fitting you provide before installation. If an outdoor lamp is not rated for the planned location, we tell you before starting work.

Important Safety Notes

Never Touch Open Electrical Connections

Before connecting any fitting, we switch off the relevant circuit breaker and confirm with a voltage tester that no current is present. This step is non-negotiable even when the wall switch is off - a wiring error can still carry voltage at the ceiling connection.

Underestimated Risk: Wrong Load Rating

A pendant light fixed with a standard hook in crumbling Altbau plaster can fall months later, sometimes without warning. This is particularly true for fittings weighing more than 5 kg. We check the ceiling structure and use load-rated anchors matched to the actual weight of the fitting.

How Lamp Installation Works

1

Quick Enquiry

Tell us what lamp you want installed and where - ideally with a photo of the ceiling or wall. We give you a fixed price and suggest an appointment.

2

Scan, Mount, Connect

We scan the ceiling or wall before the first drill hole, set the right hook or anchor, route the cable neatly, and connect the fitting. For wall lamps we discuss the cable routing with you on site before we start.

3

Done and Clean

The lamp hangs straight, works, and holds. Drilling dust is vacuumed up and we take packaging with us. No open cables, no mess left behind.

DIY vs. Professional Lamp Installation

For a simple ceiling lamp at a sound connection, DIY is fine. Once weight, Altbau walls or cable routing are involved, professional installation is worth it.

FAQs

  • Do I need a licensed electrician for lamp installation?

In most cases, no. If an existing ceiling or wall connection is in place, we connect the new fitting to it. This is not a full electrical installation and does not require a licensed electrician in Austria. If there is no existing connection or a new cable run is needed, we recommend an electrician for that part and handle the mechanical installation afterwards.

  • Can my ceiling hold a heavy pendant light or chandelier?

It depends on the ceiling structure. In concrete ceilings (common in post-war buildings), we can set anchors rated for 50 kg and more. In hollow ceilings or drywall, the load capacity is lower - we use special cavity anchors or fix directly into ceiling joists. We check this before we start and give you an honest assessment of what is possible.

  • What if there is no ceiling hook in place?

No problem. We scan the ceiling, select the right location, and set a load-rated hook. For heavy fittings we use heavy-duty anchors directly in the concrete. For hollow ceilings we anchor into the structural members behind the board.

  • How do you hide the cable on a wall lamp?

Two options: a cable conduit along the wall (neat, affordable, available in white or matching colours) or running the cable behind the plaster (invisible, more work, only possible in softer walls). We discuss both options with you beforehand and recommend what suits your apartment and budget.

  • Do you install outdoor lamps?

Yes. We mount wall lamps at front entrances, on balconies and on facades. For outdoor installations we use IP-rated covers and weatherproof cable routing to prevent moisture from entering the fitting.

  • Can you install several lamps in one visit?

Yes, and it is the most cost-effective option. If you want three ceiling lamps and two wall lamps installed, we do everything in one visit. This saves time and costs less than separate appointments. We can also combine lamp installation with other mounting work such as shelves or curtain rods.

  • Do I need to provide the lamp or do you supply it?

You bring the lamp (or have it at home already). We arrive with everything needed for the installation: anchors, hooks, cable conduit, tools and wall scanner. You do not need to buy anything extra.

  • How much does lamp installation cost in Vienna?

A simple ceiling lamp at an existing connection starts from €49. Pendant light with height adjustment from €59. Heavy chandelier or large pendant from €89. Wall lamp with cable conduit from €69. For multiple lamps in one visit we provide a package price. You receive a fixed price upfront with no hidden costs.

  • Do you work outside Vienna?

Yes. We cover Vienna and the surrounding area - Klosterneuburg, Mödling, Schwechat, Perchtoldsdorf and other municipalities in Lower Austria. For jobs outside Vienna, just send us an enquiry and we will quote a fixed price including travel.
