Every mirror raises two questions. Can the wall hold the weight? And can the hanging hardware on the mirror itself? We check both before we drill.
Hanging Heavy Mirrors
We hang heavy mirrors from at least two points, or on a wall rail that spreads the weight across the full width. In soft Altbau brick we use anchors made for that masonry. More on this further down.
Bathroom Mirror Mounting
Bathroom mirrors are often heavier than they look. In bathrooms we use stainless screws so the fixing does not rust in the humidity. We drill tiles with a tile bit so they do not crack. We connect an illuminated mirror to an existing connection. A new power connection is installed by an external, licensed electrician.
Picture Hanging
We hang single pictures and gallery walls. For gallery walls, we first lay the pictures out on the floor, measure the gaps and transfer the points to the wall with a laser. Every gap is right the first time. Heavy frames over 5 kg get a wall anchor instead of a nail.
Heavy Mirrors in Altbau: Wall and Hanging Hardware
A 20 kg mirror on a simple plug in old brick can hold at first and loosen after a few months. For heavy mirrors in Altbau we use injection mortar (chemical anchoring) or heavy-duty anchors made for brick.
The hanging hardware on the mirror matters just as much. Many mirrors only have thin eyelets or a wire on the back. Frameless mirrors need their own mirror clips (holders at the edge). We like to hang large, heavy mirrors on a wall rail that the mirror hooks onto.
Look at the back of your mirror before the appointment. If there are only thin eyelets or a wire, let us know and we will bring stronger hanging hardware.

Wrong Anchor for Heavy Mirrors
A heavy mirror that pulls out of the wall can injure people and cause a lot of damage. The cause is usually an anchor that does not suit the wall, or an underestimated weight. We check both before mounting.

A light mirror up to 5 kg starts from €35, a medium mirror up to 20 kg from €45, a mirror over 20 kg from €60. Illuminated bathroom mirrors start from €70, large-format mirrors from €80. A picture costs from €30, a gallery of up to 10 pieces from €79. We recommend a fixed price upfront.
How heavy can a mirror be, including on drywall?
It depends on the wall. In solid walls (Altbau brick, concrete) we use heavy-duty anchors to fix even very heavy mirrors up to about 80 kg. Drywall holds much less: with metal cavity anchors or fixing into the stud frame, up to about 40 kg is possible, depending on the wall. We always plan the fixing for the actual weight.
At what height should a mirror hang?
It depends on the purpose. A full-length mirror usually starts about 20 to 30 cm above the floor. A bathroom mirror hangs with its lower edge about 10 to 20 cm above the washbasin. For decorative mirrors, the effect in the room matters most. We advise on site.
Do I need to buy wall hooks or mirror clips?
No. We bring wall hooks, mirror clips and all anchors. If the mirror has no hanging hardware, or it is too weak, we bring a suitable one.
Can a mirror be hung without drilling?
For small, light mirrors up to about 3 kg, there are adhesive hooks for smooth plaster or tiles. For heavier mirrors they are not reliable, especially on uneven Altbau walls. Above that, we recommend drilling.
